Investigators from the Peel Regional Police Fraud Bureau want to remind the public about the importance of protecting their debit and credit card information.
Here are some easy suggestions to help ensure the public is safeguarded against debit and credit card fraud.
- Always protect your PIN (personal identification number).
- Never divulge your PIN to anyone.
- Check you account statements regularly. If there are any transactions or purchases you did not make, notify your financial institution immediately.
- If you lose possession of your debit or credit card, cancel the card immediately.
- Beware of objects attached to bank machines that make their normal appearance or operation seem unusual.
- Beware of signs posted over bank machines directing you to use one specific machine.
- Report suspicious activity at bank machines to police.
