PETS FROM NIGERIA

Investigators from the Peel Regional Police Fraud Bureau want to alert the public about a new fraud scam which involves purchasing pets from Nigeria that in the end, could cause you to lose your hard earned money.

Recently, there have been unsolicited e-mails and ads placed on electronic chat groups and bulletin boards offering free pets i.e. dogs, exotic birds. The victims of this scam place an order for the pet of choice from a business or group based in West Africa-Nigeria on the pretence that the animal will be shipped to them in a timely manner. Over the course of the sale and negotiations, the victims are scammed into paying for the shipping fees, animal crates, and paperwork in regards to the animal that they have ordered. Theses fees can total thousand of dollars. Once the money has been paid, the animal never arrives.

Peel Regional Police would like to remind people that offers that seem too good to be true usually are.
