Doors, Windows and Garage

DOORS
- Entrance doors should have a solid core.
- Install a wide-angle peep hole.
- Install a good security lock.
- Use deadbolt locks that extend at least one inch into the strike plate.
- Install a escutcheon plate to strengthen the door.
- According to the Peel Regional Police, "do not use doublecylinder deadbolt locks on doors due to the exit requirements in an emergency".
- If there is glass within 40 inches of a deadbolt lock, then the glass should be fortified with a safety film.
- Sliding doors need a metal bar to fill the inside track and a lock. Consider using a safety film on glass sliding doors.
WINDOWS
- Add a locking device and a pin on sliding windows.
- Metal windows need a lock or metal bar.

- Don't forget the basement window. Consider using the security film. It's better to use a polycarbonate panel than bars. The panel
provide escape in case of a fire.
GARAGE
- Keep the garage door closed when not in use.
- Do not leave the keys inside your vehicle. Remove them and lock the vehicle in the garage.
